It’s normal to occasionally feel socially anxious. Anxiety is a normal part of everyday life. You may feel though that your level of anxiety, social anxiety, or shyness, is exaggerated and unhelpful. Understanding and overcoming social anxiety and shyness can enable us to present our true selves to the world, in a way that we may not have been able to do previously.

What do we mean by social anxiety? Social anxiety is a shorthand term that describes the fear, nervousness and apprehension most people at times experience in their relationships with other people – ‘a feeling of being (negatively) evaluated or judged’.

This introductory 3-hour session, in-person or via Zoom explores the 3 main aspects that keep social anxiety and shyness going, and what we can do to address it, so that we can make more of ourselves/situations and feel more comfortable with ourselves and others.
Namely, by:
✔️ REDUCING SELF-FOCUSED ATTENTION
✔️ CHANGING OUR THINKING PATTERNS
✔️ DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY: CHANGING BEHAVIOURS
✔️ BUILDING UP SELF-CONFIDENCE

As someone who has experienced social anxiety for a number of years, I have a keen interest in the subject, both to understand it, and to learn strategies and techniques to deal with it for myself and for others.

(The content of the session is based around a book in the excellent CBT-based ‘Overcoming’ series: ‘Social Anxiety and Shyness’, by Gillian Butler).
